THE CITY<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>

Wolverhampton is the third largest city<\/strong> in the West Midlands, after Birmingham<\/strong> and Coventry.<\/strong> Located 12 miles (20km) north of Birmingham, the metropolitan borough forms the northwestern part of the West Midlands conurbation, with Walsall<\/strong> located to the east and Dudley<\/strong> to the south.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

NICKNAMES<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>

The city is affectionately known as \u2018Wolftown\u2019 (Wolf Town\u2019)<\/strong>, \u2018Wolves\u2019<\/strong> or \u2018Wolvo\u2019<\/strong> by locals and its motto, \u2018Out of Darkness Cometh Light\u2019<\/strong> has been adopted by the city\u2019s football team, Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C<\/strong>, whose distinctive black and gold strip is a representation of darkness (black) and light (gold).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The city benefits from excellent travel links<\/strong>, with the M6 motorway<\/strong> running just outside of Wolverhampton\u2019s east <\/strong>and northwest borders<\/strong> and the M54 motorway<\/strong> located to the north which links to Telford<\/strong>. HISTORY<\/h1>

Boasting a rich history, the city began life in 985 and was founded by Lady Wulfruna<\/strong> whose importance is referenced throughout the city even to this day. Wolverhampton grew as a market town, specialising in the wool trade<\/strong> but during the industrial revolution became known for its production of steel, coal mining, lock making and automotive manufacturing, in addition it had significant aerospace and service sector industries.<\/p>

In the year 2000, Wolverhampton was granted city status,<\/strong> which served to underline the area\u2019s importance.<\/p>

POPULATION AND ETHNIC DIVERSITY<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>

According to \u2018WV Insight\u2019,<\/strong> the area has an estimated population of 270,000 in 2025,<\/strong> which has been growing in recent years. Known for its ethnic diversity, 45% of residents in 2021 were identified as ethnic minorities (residents of non-White British heritage). In addition, 23% of the population in the same year were not born within the UK. \u00a085% of the population speak English as their main language.<\/p>

\u2018Population Review\u2019<\/strong> suggests that the city has a higher number of Hindu residents than the national average and also has one of the largest Sikh populations in England and Wales.<\/p>

The population of the city is projected to rise to 296,102<\/strong> by 2043. Although the city is considered \u2018younger\u2019 than the national average, it still faces challenges from an aging population, with the 65+ age group expected to rise faster than its younger cohorts. GOVERNMENT<\/strong><\/h1>

The vast majority of Wolverhampton is governed by Wolverhampton City Council,<\/strong> however some smaller parts are controlled by South Staffordshire Council.<\/strong><\/p>

Three MPs represent the area administered by the City Council in parliament: Wolverhampton West (Warinder Juss MP, Labour), <\/strong>Wolverhampton South East (Pat McFadden MP, Labour) <\/strong>and Wolverhampton North East (Sureena Brackenridge MP, Labour) <\/strong>constituencies. ECONOMY AND BUSINESS<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>

The city\u2019s largest single employer is Wolverhampton City Council,<\/strong> which employs over 12,000 staff. Birmingham Midshires<\/strong> has its headquarters within the city, along with Marston\u2019s Brewery.<\/strong> Jaguar Land Rover<\/strong> opened a \u00a3500 million Engine Assembly Plant at the i54 business park,<\/strong> Wolverhampton in 2014, which has been extended several times over the last decade years, and, there are plans for further expansion in 2025.<\/p>

Carvers Building Supplies <\/strong>is a notable business in the city and H S Marston, MOOG<\/strong> and Goodrich Actuation Systems<\/strong> make up Wolverhampton\u2019s aerospace industry. PLACES OF INTEREST<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>

The Grand Theatre<\/strong> \u2013 also known as \u2018The Grand\u2019 \u2013 first opened its doors in 1894 and hosts a diverse range of performances.<\/p>

Wolverhampton Art Gallery<\/strong> showcases a phenomenal selection of art and holds many permanent displays. The gallery was established in 1884 and has long been an important part of the city.<\/p>

Molinuex Stadium<\/strong> is a mecca for football fans and is home to the city\u2019s own Premier League club, Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.<\/p>

West Park<\/strong> offers residents the perfect place to step away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre and enjoy beautiful outdoor space.<\/p>

The National Trust\u2019s Wightwick Manor<\/strong> and Moseley Old Hall<\/strong> are must-visit locations for those who love historic buildings and the Edwardian Bantock House Museum<\/strong> provides an interesting insight into the history of the city.<\/p>

The Halls<\/strong> plays host to a diverse range of live events, including live music, comedy, circus, psychic shows, boxing and darts and boasts a 3000 capacity.<\/p>

In addition<\/strong> there are over 600 shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, two indoor shopping centres, indoor and outdoor markets, cinema, clubs and hotels.<\/p>
