As part of Wolverhampton Grammar School’s on-going work to inspire a love of reading, on Tuesday 28th January the school was thrilled to welcome author and television personality Tom Read Wilson, alongside award-winning illustrator Ian Morris. Over 300 children from local schools across Wolverhampton gathered to take part in this exciting celebration of words.
The event offered children from Years 3 to 7 the opportunity to explore the fascinating and often humorous stories behind the words we use every day. Tom’s lively presentation was complemented by live drawings from Ian, followed by an interactive draw-along where children were encouraged to ask Ian to draw anything they wished. In the book, Wonderful Words That Tell a Tale, each word is brought to life through charming poems, while Tom pairs every word with Ian’s timeless and characterful watercolour illustrations.
At the end of the event, students had the chance to purchase signed personalised copies of the book and left with renewed enthusiasm for a love of reading.
